| ONE OF THE HOLLYWOOD TEN, BY KARL FRANCIS,WILL CLOSE THE OFFICIAL SECTION OF THE 48TH EDITION OF THE DONOSTIA-SAN SEBASTIAN INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL The 48th edition of the Donostia-San Sebastián International Film Festival will be brought to a close next September 30 with a film about cinema and about filmmaking as a political instrument: ONE OF THE HOLLYWOOD TEN by Karl Francis. Based on the life of the American director Herbert J. Biberman, one of the most persecuted figures during the Hollywood witch hunt period, the film stars Greta Scacchi, Jeff Goldblum, Antonio Valero and Angela Molina, who plays the actress Rosaura Revueltas, the legendary star of Salt of Earth. The selection of films in the Official Section, some of whose titles can be disclosed, is completed with well-known and acclaimed names (Bigelow, Irving, Ozon, De la Iglesia, Chouraqui), Festival regulars (Uribe, Ripstein, Lombardi) and undiscovered promising young filmmakers. THE WEIGHT OF WATER by Kathryn Bigelow. The latest work by the director of Point Break and Strange Days, which stars Sean Penn, Elizabeth Hurley, Catherine McCormak and Sarah Polley, tells a fascinating story in two distinct yet interwoven times. HARRISON'S FLOWERS by Elie Chouraqui. A press photographer's wife (Andie MacDowell) cannot accept the fact that her husband has died while covering the Balkan Wars. A fierce chronicle of the horrors of war set within a passionate love story. ONE OF THE HOLLYWOOD TEN by Karl Francis. (Closing film. LA COMUNIDAD (COMMONWEALTH) by Álex de la Iglesia. (Opening Film. In Competition) Starring Carmen Maura in a cast of excellent actors, La Comunidad (Commonwealth) is a wild drama of black humour and neighbourhood terror. Twisted, claustrophobic and domestic, it is sure to leave no one feeling indifferent. EL OTRO BARRIO (THE OTHER SIDE) by Salvador García Ruiz. (Second feature) Salvador García Ruiz's second feature film shows us a neighbourhood of Madrid as portrayed by Elvira Lindo. Vallecas is the setting of this story starring Jorge Alcázar, a fifteen year old adolescent, and Álex Casanova. SHINER by John Irvin. (Not in competition) An excellent opportunity to enjoy the performance of Michael Caine in a role written especially for him. With Martin Landau, Matthew Marsden and Frances Barber. The latest work by veteran English director J. Irving (A Month by the Lake. BARKING DOGS NEVER BITE by Bong Joon-ho. (First feature) A middle-class area of Seoul. Everyday people living their lives peacefully... if only that damned dog would just stop barking. Debut by a young director who adds his name to the list of interesting Korean filmmakers. PARIAS by Nicolas Klotz. A police bus picks up the homeless and takes them to a centre where they are treated, showered, dressed and then put back out on the streets. A number of these characters interact, some helping and others hating one another. A sharp and passionate account of one of the realities of our time. ALASKA. DE by Esther Gronenborn. (First feature) First and promising work by a German documentary maker. Set in the outskirts of East Berlin, it offers a unique portrayal of the life of Sabine and Eddie, two teenagers caught up in a story of love and death. TINTA ROJA by Francisco J. Lombardi. Lombardi returns to present day Lima to tell us a black tale, although tinted with red, based on the true story of a crime reporter in the Peruvian capital. Starring Fele Martínez, Lucía Jiménez, Giovanni Cicia and Carlos Gassols. SOUS LE SABLE (UNDER THE SABLE) by François Ozon. Ozon captured our attention a few years ago in San Sebastián with his disturbing Regarde la mer. He now returns to the festival and to the sea, where his latest film takes place. A strange and mysterious story starring Charlotte Rampling and Bruno Cremer. SIN DEJAR HUELLA by María Novaro. Aitana Sánchez Gijón and Tiara Scanda star in this Mexican road movie which follows two intrepid women as they cross the country on a liberating journey. Directed by María Novaro, the young director of Danzón. LA PERDICIÓN DE LOS HOMBRES by Arturo Ripstein. An interesting cinematographic experiment by the tireless Mexican director. Based on the short feature Dos deudos, produced by Canal+, Paz Alicia Garciadiego wrote the screenplay expanding on the story of the two assassins who stoned an old bigamous friend to death. FACE by Junji Sakamoto. Starring one of the great actresses of Japanese theatre, Naomi Fujiyama, this independent director's ninth film tells the story of a woman who, after committing murder, disappears into the crowd and becomes a face pursued by the police. PLENILUNIO (PLENILUNE) by Imanol Uribe. (Not in competition) Based on a novel by Antonio Muñoz Molina, this film stars Miguel Angel Solá, Adriana Ozores, Juan Diego Botto and Fernando Fernán-Gómez. According to Uribe, Plenilune is a reflection on horror and love, which at times exist side by side. - In addition, the Zabaltegi New Directors competition is enhanced by a new British contribution: SEXY BEAST, a first feature film by Jonathan Glazer. A black comedy, delirious and at times surrealistic, its cast is highlighted by the presence of a treacherous and threatening Ben Kingsley.
